Question : Problem: Cannot install Windows 2000 on a new SATA hard drive
|
|
To begin here are my specs: Bio-Star M7VIK Motherboard Maxtor 160 GB SATA hard drive (6Y160M0)
I am trying to install a fresh copy of Windows 2000 onto a new Serial ATA hard drive. I have tried almost everything. I have the drivers from Bio-Star's website for my motherboard and have tried starting Windows setup using F6 and stil have had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It happens because you dont have the drivers installed while the OS is installing. Windows 2000 does not support SATA naturally so you will have to provide the drivers manually. When the setup process is starting, press F6 to add an external drivers (the SATA drivers). Insert floppy diskette to the floppy drive and install the drivers. Afterwards the OS will install flawlessly.
How to obtain the drivers? 1. Go to BioSTAR site and obtain the SATA drivers. 2. Extract the files and copy the '\Windows 2000' directory content in-to a floppy drive's root. 3. Use that floppy to install the drivers.
Links: Here is BioSTAR site where the drivers are located; http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/driver/model.php3?name=M7VIK&os=
This will help you...
