Question : Problem: Cisco 837

Ok Appologies - for my lack of knowledge in this area

Client has the router above Cisco 837 (with a static IP)

Wants to have client to gateway VPN installed

What extra licences does he need if any and how much are they
What IOS version should the Router be at

What VPN client software can be used (ie the cisco VPN client software)

How do you set it ip WITHOUT RADIUS/TACACS etc

Answer : Problem: Cisco 837

The latest IOS is 12.4.12 LD (requires 64D12F) or 12.4(11)T ED (requires 64D16F) for this particular router.  If the router has less memory, go with 12.3(11)T10 (48D8F)... all the feature sets for this router seem to support VPN/IPSec/3DES.  The Cisco VPN Client would also be the best choice (maybe the only choice) to connect to this router from the Internet.

Check with your Cisco reseller for the proper licenses.  I have no idea what they would cost...

Without RADIUS, you have to use a local username database...
