Question : Problem: How To Test To See If A Tape Drive Is Functioning

Hi,
I have just replaced a tape drive in a server, im not sure how to test the tape drive to prove its functioning.  

It shows up in device manager ok.  Not in my computer though

Answer : Problem: How To Test To See If A Tape Drive Is Functioning

Here's how we do testing at our customer sites:

1. Create a simple text file.
2. Pop a tape in the drive and back it up.
3. Delete the file.
4. Recover the file from tape.

If you have a problem, this simple test will expose it almost immediately.  Plus, your backup software will generate errors that will help you determine how to fix a problem, if one exists.
