Question : Problem: Primary Hard Drive not detected in BIOS
I just purchased a K6-166 and a Gigabyte XT motherboard. After installing I went into the BIOS and tried to Auto detect my 2 hard drives. The Primary master (Western Digital 1.2Gb) could not be detected, but my Secondary master (Maxtor 3.5Gb) could. I tried 3 different cables, 2 different power sources, to no avail. I will try manually setting configuration tonight, and swapping IDE #1 & #2 cables on the motherbooard. Any other suggestions?? PLEASE reply to: [email protected] (NOT [email protected]) Thanks!

Try installing the drives as master one at a time. If both drive are detected and working when they are connected by themselves, you might not be able to install the two IDE hard drives together. This was a problem with the IDE interface when it first came out; hard drives from two manufactures may not be able to co-exist. This problem should have been fixed on the newer drives.
