Question : Problem: p4 celeron amd?

whats the differnce?!!?!?p4, celeron & amd?

Answer : Problem: p4 celeron amd?

You have asked a very wide question.  What are you going to be doing with your computer?

To start with I will talk about the P4 and celeron.  The P4 and the celeron our made by Intel.  Both of the processors use the same core.  The core is basiclly the center brain of the processor.  The P4 is intel's best desktop processor.  It is fast and dependable.  The P4 is mean't for use with many applications and made with various plans of use in mind.  The P4 can handle the basic Microsoft office products, but it also can handle 3D rendering, heavy duty gaming, photo editing, and several other heavy processor usage applications.  This is were the P4 and the Celeron differ.  The Celeron is a toned down P4 for the discount market.  They don't run as fast and also have less L2 cache.  L2 cache is very important for processors.  Unlike its daddy, the P4, Celeron processors will not handle 3D rendering, heavy duty gaming, and photo editing as well as the P4, if at all.  There also is a huge price difference in the Celeron and the P4.

AMD is another CPU maker.  AMD- Advanced Micro Devices.  Their products have been on the market all most as long as Intel's products.  AMD makes three consumer products for desktop usage, the Duron, Athlon XP, 64 bit processors.  The Duron will not even be considered in this thread because they are not what you would want.   Athlon XP processors are the equivilent to the P4 processor up the the speed of 2.6 ghz.  After that speed the Athlon's just can not keep up.  The Athlon processors are very good processor.  They are used for desktop applications a long with heavy gaming.  They do not do as well in 3D rendering and video editing as the P4's because of the way they are made.  However, many Athlon XP processors are faster than intel processors up to the point of Intels 2.6 Ghz.  The Athlon works very well for gaming and doing the desktop applications due to the way it is designed.
AMD also makes 64 bit processors.  There is currently just a couple different kinds.  There is the 3200 +, 3000 +, and the FX-51.  AMD this past fall introduced the first consumer 64 bit processors.  64 bit processors are an amazing thought considering we have been using 32 bit for a long time.  64 bit processors are fast even though they do not have the high speeds of the Intel P4 they match up to it head to head.  64 Bit processors are being used for 3D rendering, heavy duty gaming, photo editing, and several other heavy processor usage applications.  They do all that quite well just as the P4.

intel P4 is not as good or fast as  Athlon XP processors for the same price!
Intel P4 < 2.6 Ghz = Athlon XP processors
Intel P4 > 2.6 Ghz = AMD 64 bit processors

Hope all that helps a little.  Ask some more quesitons.
