Question : Problem: Share an Itunes library on an external drive

Hi,

I would like to share a single ITunes library with multiple users on Windows XP. The library would be stored on an external hard drive.

I would like the library to display the latest music, videos, etc. WITH artwork.

For example:

User A, B & C share an Itunes library.

User A imports music from a cd and the music and artwork is displayed in the library, user A then logs off.
User C opens ITunes and the new music is displayed with the artwork, User C downloads a song from ITunes, user C then logs off.
User B opens ITunes and can listen to the imported CD and the new downloaded song.

Does this make sense?

I've tried this solution and it doesn't  really work the way I need it to:

Is there a workaround? Any 3rd party apps?

Thanks in advance.

baxleyb,

You should try the steps and guide at http://lifehacker.com/software/itunes/hack-attack-share-your-itunes-music-library-over-your-home-network-230605.php .  Of course make sure the steps don't violate the terms of use policy for iTunes or the music files, especially those purchased.

A key to why the steps above will work or be closer to what you want is they share the iTunes library file too.  That is a key if you want a change on one computer to then appear on others.  Just having the music files shared isn't enough and why the info on the Apple page isn't enough for what you want.

Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.
