Question : Problem: Laptop screen went blank

Hi

We have a Toshiba Satellite M30 model notebook computer. The monitor suddenly went blank and would not come back even after restarting.

We tried a couple of things.

1. We connected an external monitor and it works. We were able to access the data in the computer.

2. Then we connected a TV signal to the laptop's TV tuner input and the LCD display worked. (We were able to watch TV channels on the computer). So the LCD monitor is also working.

Are there any suggestions .. as to what the problem could be .. Please let me know.

Thanks
Tamije

Answer : Problem: Laptop screen went blank

The model is a Canadian unit and has the nVIDIA GeForce FX GO 5200 with 64MB DDR video memory video GPU in it . It doesn't say that its integrated and the ram being seperate from the main ram makes it look like its a seperate video card, but Toshiba says its not upgradable or replaceable. That leads me to believe the GPU is integrated and has its own ram module slot somewhere under the keyboard. If it is indeed integrated then the motherboard would need to be replaced.
