Question : Problem: Laptop rebooting on DHCP
|
|
I have a Dell D800 Laptop that was running fine, I didnt change any hardware or software (that I can remember) a couple of weeks ago the laptop started spontanously rebooting whenever I had any NIC activity like trying to change ip addresses. I attempted to do a backup at that point and I found that whenever I try to have backup Exec access the machine from its remote backup server it will reboot the laptop.. I have narrowed it down that whenever a NIC either the internal Wireless one or the internal hardwired one attempt to change their ip via DHCP the machine will bluescreen, make a buzz noise and then reboot. Any suggestions on how to troublshoot this? I can log on under a different profile and it does the same. In safe mode it does not but the NICs are not active. I can put a full manual TCP address in and then it will go on the network fine, but if I choose dhcp zzzzzzzzzzzzzp another blue screen reboot. So if I go DHCP it reboots and if I try to connect to it over the network it also reboots. I have been sitting at my desk not even using it and you will hear the noise and it reboots. I tried a system restore but I didnt have one that went back before this had started.
Not too sure where to begin the troublshooting. this is the only thing I see in the event log..

Bug Check 0xB8: ATTEMPTED_SWITCH_FROM_DPC The ATTEMPTED_SWITCH_FROM_DPC bug check has a value of 0x000000B8. This indicates that an illegal operation was attempted by a delayed procedure call (DPC) routine.
Cause A wait operation, attach process, or yield was attempted from a DPC routine. This is an illegal operation.
Resolving the Problem The stack trace will lead to the code in the original DPC routine that caused the error.
You must attach the minidumps at any webspace and I will prcoess the dump and examine the stack trace to find out the culprit. You can find the minidump at the folder \windows\minidump
