Question : Problem: Can I use Airport Extreme without Broadband?
|
|
Hi, forgive my ignorance, but I have 2 Apple G4 powerbooks with wireless cards, and Airport Extreme. Problem is, I don't have broadband, which it seems I need. I only have a very slow dial up connection, with no chance of broadband, Is there any way I can get use out of the Airport extreme thing< I mean, if I can even get the two laptops to talk to each other and play itunes remotely, at least it'll be a step up. Is there anything I can interface with? Any addon I can use?
Tks!

Hi Nichollette,
There are a few things that need clarification. Airport Extreme Card are the wireless card that are installed into the PowerBooks, MacBooks, etc. Airport Extreme Basestation, is the wireless station (looks like a UFO for the older version or a squarish one for the newer version).
Now the Internet connection and wireless network (a.k.a. the Airports) are two different things. You can connect the two PowerBooks to each other using the Airport, copy files over, etc. It works like a local network but without the wire. If you configure them properly, you can even share the Internet connection. Using 1 PowerBook to dial-up and another PowerBook can also access the Internet through the sharing.
