Answer : Problem: HP ScanJet 3300C won't scan-gets error message

try this first download the patch

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/scanners/software/sj509mu.exe.html

then if that does not work try the solutions below

ISSUE: When attempting to scan, one or both of the following errors appear: "Scanner not responding error 2093" and/or "Unidentified program error 2117."

SOLUTION 1: Turn the computer off. Unplug the scanner power cord, wait for 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord. It is very important to wait for thirty seconds before reconnecting the power, this gives the scanner time to reset.

SOLUTION 2: Download and install SJ435EN.EXE, the USB Patch for HP ScanJet 4100C, 5200C, 6200C, and 6300C families of scanners, available by linking to the Customer Care Web site from the "For more information" section at the bottom of this document.

The file, SJ435EN.EXE, can be found by using the Search feature of the Customer Care Web site and looking under Software and Drivers for your scanner.

SOLUTION 3: See the following:

Verify that the following files exist in the Windows\System32\Drivers directory:
OPENHCI.SYS
UHCD.SYS
USBCAMD.SYS
USBD.SYS
USBHUB.SYS
USBSCAN.SYS*
If any of these are missing, they need to be extracted from the Windows 98 CD-ROM into the Windows\System32\Drivers directory (this can be done with the Windows 98 System File Checker).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: USBSCAN.SYS should be 9 KB. If any copies of this file are found that are larger than 9 KB, delete them and re-extract the file from the Windows 98 CD.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Verify that the following file exists in the Windows\Inf directory:
USB.INF
If this file is missing, extract it from the Windows 98 CD-ROM into the Windows\Inf directory (with WIN98 System File Checker).
If the scanner is listed in the Device Manager under Imaging Device, remove it.
Reboot the computer once all missing files have been replaced.

ISSUE: When choosing Accept in HP PrecisionScan or opening HP PrecisionScan LT, the error "Unidentified Program Error 2117" occurs.

SOLUTION: Rename the file CTL3D32.DLL and reinstall the HP Scanning Software.

1. From the Windows Desktop, select Start, Find, and Files or Folders.

2. Type CTL3D32.DLL in the Named box and select Find Now.

3. When the file appears, right-mouse click it, select Rename, type CTL3D32.OLD, and then select Enter.

4. Reinstall the HP Scanning Software.

5. Shut down the computer, cycle the power on the scanner, and turn the PC back on. The error should no longer occur.

SUMMARY: This error occurs because v 2.31 of CTL3D32.DLL exists on the system. Version 2.31 is the Windows NT version. By renaming the file and reinstalling, v 2.29, which is the Windows 95 version, is installed.

finally if none of this has worked so far

then

ISSUE: The scanner will install correctly and appear to be configured properly in Device Manager. When attempting to scan an "Undefined Program Error 2117" occurs.

SOLUTION: Listed below are some possible causes and remedies.

1. Check shipping lock if ti is already out try inserting it and removing it several times

2. If the scanner is connected to a USB hub, disconnect the scanner, and connect it directly to the PC

3. Verify software version is v 3.0c or above
The HP ScanJet 3300C scanner ships with HP PrecisionScan LT 3.0c. To verify which version the customer is using:
1. Open PrecisionScan LT
2. Choose the Help menu About HP PrecisionScan LT
3. In the About HP PrecisionScan LT window, version 3.0c should show
If this is true, you now need to verify the version of the file, hp3300t.dll:
1. Choose Start, Find, Files and Folders
2. In the Named Field type hp3300t.dll
3. Right-click the file, choose Properties
4. Choose the Version tab at the top of the Properties window
5. If the version is 5.3.99.0, it is the original version that came with the scanner.
6. The customer will need to download the patch, SJ509.EXE, from the HP ScanJet Web site. Power-cycle the scanner and reboot the computer and try to scan again.
Once the customer runs the patch, the version of the hp3300t.dll will be version 6.8.99.0

4. Power cycle the scanner, reboot and try to scan

5. Uninstall the scanner then reboot windows hit ctrl, alt, delete and end task everything except for explorer and systray then reinstall the scanner   (if you have norton anti virus go into it and disable auto protect mode) then reboot and follow the instructions above about ctrl, alt, delete and end taskinbg everything then reinstall

6. If none of the above worked then the scanner will need to be serviced
