Question : Problem: Keyboard Frequently Stops Responding
|
|
I have a generic wired keyboard that is giving me some trouble. About once a day it spontaneously stops working. Unplugging it and reconnecting it always fixes the problem but this is irritating at best, and not knowing the problem is making me nuts.
The keyboard is USB, it is being used on Windows XP multimedia SP2. I uninstalled the manufacturer driver and started using the Microsoft default driver at one point after the problem started, but it did not make a difference. I've tried multiple USB Ports and i've also tried using a PS/2 Adapter but neither fixes the issue.
Normally the Keyboard shows up as "HID Keyboard Device". This device disappears when the keyboard stops working.
Has anyone else had a problem like this and found a fix, or at least a cause? Any help is greatly appreciated, whether it be a fix, or just an answer as to what is causing the issue.

It looks like the USB connector of the keyboard is worn out. As keyboards are cheap it is probably best to replace the keyboard.
