Question : Problem: Laptop Will not start, Light comes on, Disc Drive light flashing then restarts computer

We have a Gateway Laptop, model MX3417.

The battery is fully charged, and when you turn it on you can hear the CD drive spin up, then the computer beeps (very quietly) twice, and it restarts keeping that loop.

I took the CD Drive out, and it doesnt do anything at all, only the power light is on.

I also attempted this without the memory, new memory, without battery, on JUST battery, removed the hard drive, tryed new hard drive, and without the wireless card. All with the same results.

It will not even POST. I fear it might be the motherboard, but I would like another opinion on the matter first.

Quite possibly the motherboard.

I'd check that the fan is working correctly (clean any dust out of the system) as well.

You are getting two beeps.  What does the Gateway manual tell you that they mean?
