Question : Problem: Wireless LAN Connection Delays

Experts,

I have a LAN with several PCs on it, as follows:

a) 3 machines are wired via 100Mbps ethernet
b) 4 machines are wireless via 802.11g WEP 64-bit

All machines are going through a Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router, and the router is connected to the internet via a cable modem.  The WRT54G has four ethernet ports and one internet port.

The problem is a long delay connecting to the wireless hot spot for two of the wireless Vista machines: about 20 minutes for one, and about 40 minutes for the other.

The 802.11g wireless signal strength at both machines is excellent (all bars are green.)

After connecting to the hot spot, the two machines work perfectly on the LAN and Internet.

Can you help me fix this problem?

Thanks.

Answer : Problem: Wireless LAN Connection Delays

Try it without security at all. It takes less than 10 minutes to crack WEP with freely available software; consider updating your security to WPA2-PSK [AES], or WPA-PSK [TKIP] at the minimum.

Update the firmware on the WRT54G. Look at the barcode sticker on the bottom of the router for the version information - that's the only place it tells the router's version.
That can help connections with vista machines as well as updating security capabilities.
