Question : Problem: PartitionMagic and reformatting
|
|
What i'm trying to do is reformat my hard drive without loosing some necessary files. I installed Partition Magic and created a small 14 GiB NTFS formatted partition and have moved several files that i want to keep over to there. My question is... if i reformat my original partition that houses winXP (C:), after i reinstal windows to that partition, will i be able to retrieve the files i stored on the new partition?
just thought i should check before trying...
thanks, Matt

As tosh9iii have done several times, I have done too. That is an easy way to do it without using any other drives.
When you create a partition at the end of the disk and format the first partition, like C: the system-partition, that does no matter. The location-data of every partition is not saved on the system-partition, but on the MBR (Master Boot Record) of the disk and will not be removed during reformating the other partition or changing any.
Under new installation of WinXP you will be asked about which partition you want to install it to and can create the partition there. :)
