Question : Problem: Slave drive not recognized

I am trying to salve a Maxtor 60 GB Drive to a Dell computer.

here are the facts :

Dell Computer Runs XP....on the IDE cable there is space for a slave. The primary
master on the Dell is a Maxtor 40 GB...when I plug in the slave (Maxtor 60 GB) it is not recognized by BIOS. All the jumpers are set accord to manufactuer diagram on each drive...any ideas?

Answer : Problem: Slave drive not recognized

Some things to try:
- connect it as master on the secondary IDE
- try a different cable
- try the new drive in another machine

Does your Dell BIOS recognize drives larger than 40GB?  Try a smaller drive in the same slave position.  If it's a matter of drive size, you may need a BIOS update for your motherboard, or a PCI IDE card like this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=16-102-027&depa=1
