Question : Problem: HP ProCurve 4000m - Trouble finding its IP through Console

We have a HP ProCurve 4000m - Having trouble finding its IP address. Toptools will not reinstall becuase the tech has the pwd and unintalled the program. So I thought I could try going through the serial console port but it has been so long since I used Hyperterminal or any other telnet for that matter.

1. is that the best approach for finding the ip
2. If so how do I connect.

The best way is to keep a design diagram or spreadsheet of all your devices with their static IP's and logins and passwords or password hints.

Since you don't have that, the next best way is to check its default IP address.  I'm not sure what the default on that switch is, but it should be in the manual.  The default for my switch was 192.168.1.125.
Other than that use an IP scanner such as ANGRY IP scanner, and try all responding IP's or look for hostnames you can exclude or confirm as it.

As a last resort, you can reset it to factory default.
