Question : Problem: Recover WinXP raid 0 Stripe

Hi,

We had 2 disks (250 gigs each) striped as a 500 gig drive (in the disk management). When I reinstalled WinXP Pro, it detected the drives as 120 gigs, and after installing SP2, it now shows each drive with a 120 gig partition and the other half as free space.

How can I - safely - tell winXP that :
- I forgot that my installation CD had an old version without SP2 on it
- I forgot to remove the disks untill I finished all the SP2 installation and the plug them back
- I should not have done "extend volume" to gain a mysterious 20 gig on each disk...

On linux, I would go into fdisk, redefine each partition as 250 gigs, and then mount the raid, but I'm not sure the NTFS filesystem would like that.

Any solutions? can I do it with windows tools or do I need a third party software.

Thank you...

Answer : Problem: Recover WinXP raid 0 Stripe

XP and also other Win versions don't support disks over 137GB before SP1. Raid 0 is a unsafe configuration and normally when something in the array goes wrong, you loose everything, so generally I don't advise people to use that, rather use raid 1+0 where you get speed and redundancy.
