Answer : Problem: 3 Short Beeps

According to the board's manual,( found here:http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d946gzis/sb/d5557902_en.pdf) three beeps means 'no memory' .....but I can't seem to remember what that means... ;-)

'No memory' isn't terribly helpful.

If you have two or more memory modules in the system, you try running with just one and see if the board will boot.  You might be able to isolate the bad module (if that's really the problem).  Otherwise you should try a 'known good' memory in the machine.

The board uses commonly-available DDR2 memory, but Intel boards can be picky about memory voltage.  If the memory isn't specified to run at 1.8 V the system usually won't boot.

The 'Tested Memory List' for the board can be found here: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d946gzis/sb/CS-026621.htm

Many other memory vendor's parts work OK, too, but you can't be sure the board is OK unless you have something on their list or a part that works in an identical board.
