Question : Problem: Acoustical Issues With Intel SC5400LX Server Chasse

We have 2 Intel SC5400LX Server Chasses. They have 4 Fans (2 back to back behine the top HDD bay and 2 back to back behind the lower HDD bay). The issue we are having is that the servers are VERY loud. VERY. The noise is leaking out of the server room into other parts of the building and into offices. We have discussed Acoustical barriers and other things like this to keep the noise in, but management wants the noise decreased IN the server room, not just contained in the server room. I went into the Bios on the Mother Board (Intel S5000PSLROMB) and changed the BIOS setting from Performance to ACCoustical. The noise did not change AT ALL. It is still excatly the same. The room they are in is small (8x12) and we have 2 one Ton air conditionng units in there that keep the air about 68 degrees. The servers are not running anywere near hot, so I know know why the fans have not slowed down at all.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

DW

You need to update the firmware then the fan will adjust its speed by server temperature.
