Question : Problem: Dust problems in my computer
|
|
How do i prevent dust from entering my computer case from the case fans and power supply fan? And how do I clean it out once it starts to really accumulate? After only 6 months of use the inside of my new computer is completely filthy. Thanks.

Shlomo,
You are NEVER supposed to shake the compressed air cans. Also, keep the can as upright as possible.
Some other tips that have worked for me (I used to work in a really dusty environment): 1) Don't put your computer on the floor (or even on a large flat surface like a desktop. These act as dust collection sites, then the computer fans suck in the collected dust. 2) Do use a vacuum to suck out a heavy built-up of dust - you are right, using the canned air just blows it around. Just use the air to "brush off" a light collection. You can get a DustBuster for less than $30 at Walmart or similar stores. 3) You can put a thin filter material over the air intakes to collect the dust, and then change it regularly. I buy sheets of material designed to pre-filter HEPA air filters (carbon-based, scent absorbing) and cut into the size/shape you need. This ONLY works if you change them regularly - if you don't, they'll build up and kill your airflow.
Good luck!
