Question : Problem: Looking for tip on installing a a replacement motherboard!
Hey Everyone,
I am getting ready to install a new motherboard on my brother-in-laws computer and was looking for some pointers/tips before I start. Ive built my own machines before, but this will be my first replacement board on an existing OS.
His current MB is an Asus CUSL2-CB Black Pearl with a Pentium III. I am replacing it for him because this MB only supports up to 512mb of ram and the machine is completely bogged down with the applications that he uses. Hes running XP Home with a 30gig HDD with a secondary internal 500gig storage drive.
He wasnt looking for anything fancy, so I picked him up a Biostar P4M900-M7 SE with a Pentium D processor and 2 gigs of RAM. It was one of the few that I could find that had 2 IDE Headers, which he will need.
I am planning on following the Microsoft Method (

) for replacing a motherboard, but was hoping of getting some tips, pointers, and advice from some of you who have had more experience with this. Such as, things to be aware of that might not be listed in the MS Method (deleting drivers, etc.) prior to the swap. Also, if there is a better method than the Microsoft Method, please let me know!
If you need more info of the existing system, please let me know! Thanks a buch!
