Tigermatt did a great job answering the question. Just to add something, I actually have 2 video cards, each with 2 video outputs allowing me up to 4 monitors. I would say the best place to see if you have dual screen output is on the video card itself. However, there are adapters you can buy that will turn a single output into a dual output. something like this:
