Question : Problem: Transfering data from Amstrad 1512 to IBM PC.

My father has an old Amstrad 1512 PC which he uses solely for word processing. I have upgraded him to an IBM pc with 512mb ram and a celeron 1.1ghz cpu. The problem I have is that all his work is on the Amstrad and he wants it transfered to the new PC. My first idea was to see what type off connection the 5 1/4 inch floppy drive uses and see if it was compatable with the floppy connector on an IBM motherboard. However, he wont allow me to open it up until I know what i'm doing as it has his lifes work stored on it. The only files of any importance are text files made by an old word processing program. The PC I want to transfer the files to is running Ubuntu linux

Does anyone know the best way of transfering this information from the amstrad to the ibm pc? If not then any information regarding the 5.25in floppy connectors and their compatability with an IBM PC running linux would be appreciated

Regards,
Iain

Answer : Problem: Transfering data from Amstrad 1512 to IBM PC.

I believe the 1512 has a serial port, you may be able to use a null modem serial cable between the 1512 and a PC and use hyperterminal on the PC (think Amstrad has a similar utility). You should then be able to transfer files, or even "print" the data to the serial port and read it with the PC.
