Answer : Problem: How to resolve Windows XP Notebook user unable to connect to the internet via wireless or hard connect while out at sites

I'm still weirded out by this:

   Adapter Name : {BCEFA8C7-F6BA-45EE-B2B1-26E03E5D7806}
   Host Name : pfellman2
   Primary Domain Suffix : pwius.com
   DNS server list :
      4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3
   Sent update to server :
   IP Address(es) :
     172.28.168.212

There is no reason why your DNS servers should be 4.2.2.2. And it wouldn't matter if you couldn't update your record with the DNS server. That's a setting meant for domains.

In your 172 network, if it's a domain then your DNS server should also be 172.

When the user is at an airport or hotspot the DNS server will most likely be either the same as teh gateway address or some random public IP address.
