Windows XP SP2 - Dell Inspiron Notebook. When user is out at a site or trys to use a network connection via hotels or airport the user is unable and Event 11197 is recorded. Event Type: Warning Event Source: DnsApi Event Category: None Event ID: 11197 Date: 11/9/2007 Time: 6:15:08 PM User: N/A Computer: PFELLMAN2 Description: The system failed to update and remove host (A) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings: Adapter Name : {BCEFA8C7-F6BA-45EE-B2B1-26E03E5D7806} Host Name : pfellman2 Primary Domain Suffix : pwius.com DNS server list : 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3 Sent update to server : > IP Address(es) : 172.28.168.212 The reason the update request failed was because of a system problem. For specific error code, see the record data displayed below. Microsoft has no information when selecting their link.

I'm still weirded out by this:
Adapter Name : {BCEFA8C7-F6BA-45EE-B2B1-26E03E5D7806} Host Name : pfellman2 Primary Domain Suffix : pwius.com DNS server list : 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3 Sent update to server : > IP Address(es) : 172.28.168.212
There is no reason why your DNS servers should be 4.2.2.2. And it wouldn't matter if you couldn't update your record with the DNS server. That's a setting meant for domains.
In your 172 network, if it's a domain then your DNS server should also be 172.
When the user is at an airport or hotspot the DNS server will most likely be either the same as teh gateway address or some random public IP address.
