Question : Problem: SDLT tapes and Tape Storage Capacity
I've started using Veritas Exec for Windows v9.1 with SDLT Tapes and I'm only getting 99.1Gb uncompressed instead of some 140Gb I was expecting. Is this because I'm not using Bar Codes so the unit can't be told what to expect by the bar coding used? Can I or should I make all other type of media not valid to force SDLT to be used?

You are right on. Same tapes can be used in different drives and once formatted that way it is set that way and applications can not change it.
The way to do what you want is via a degausser or bulk eraser. It is an electronic magnetic device that will blank out the tape.
