Question : Problem: Trying to backup on RD 1000 says "Incompatible Media".

I have a server with an external  Dell RD 1000 back-up tape cartridge.   When I try top run a backup from one of the computers connected to the server an error message comes up saying that the back-up could not be accomplshed because of "incompatible media".   From what I have been told this server has not been backed up beciuse of this issue.   Since the media is so expennsive and I don't want to buy a new cartridge just to see if the present one is faulty, any nideas what I should do or look for?

what application are you using to perform the backup?
was the tape formatted initial with this app?
