Question : Problem: Getting files off hard disk before reinstall

Hi
I'm having problems logging into windows, its just becomes unresponsive.

I may need a reinstall, and need to know what is the best way to get all files off my hard drive. All files are there and intact and I want to copy them to an external hardrive.

Without going into windows will my computer recognise the hardrive is there?

And will a reinstall wipe the hardrive clean?

Answer : Problem: Getting files off hard disk before reinstall

Or use a Knoppix Live CD to copy the files from your hard disk to your external drive.

A reinstall should wipe the hard disk clean.  If you wish to make certain the system is clean download the UBCD

There are hard disk wiping tools on that.
