Question : Problem: Server positioning above UPS.

Hi All,

I am deploying two new racks and keeping with best practise i am keeping the heavy items at the bottom which sees the APC UPS i have at the very bottom; I also thought keeping the load spread over both racks would be a good idea however two questions comes to mind as i will need to put an ML370 G5 directly above the UPS.

1. Is it ok to put a file (or any) server directly above a Large (or any) UPS in a rack?
2. If it is ok, should i leave a 1 square space?

Thanks.

Aalborg.

Answer : Problem: Server positioning above UPS.

With that large of a UPS there would be probably no use to leave space for future expansion. I know of no other reason why you couldn't place the server right on top of the UPS unless there are extra ventilation holes that the server would be blocking. Space is usually at a premium in our own datacenters so every nook and cranny usually gets filled.
