How would we compare
for example the e4600 vs t5550.

Does T5*** and E5*** similar?

Answer : Problem: Which processor is better the e or t from Intel

The "E" series are desktop processors and the "T" series are laptop processors.  The clock speeds should be directly comparable, since they are both from the same Core2 Duo family, but there are variations on cache size and Front Side Bus speeds.

In your example, the E4600 runs at 2.4GHz, has a 800 FSB and 2MB cache.  The T5550 runs at 1.83GHz, has a 667 FSB and 2MB cache.  The E4600 is obviously faster, but you almost never compare desktop and laptop processors, since they are not interchangeable and have their own place in applications, which may require one over the other.
