Question : Problem: 2 Proview Monitors go kaput w/in 24 hours

Proview 900P LCD Flatscreen 19" monitor: $387 in 2005.
Windows Media Center PC Gateway 825 GM
ATI Radeon X300 SE Video w/ 128 MB PCI Express Card
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 550
Belkin UPS

Problem: Thursday my monitor went kaput. Blank screen. Green on light was dead. Thursday morning, still dead. Few hours later, green light came on. Click off/on and the screen comes up for a second, all dark and faded, then shuts off again.

Put in a ViewSonic monitor (which I'm using now), and it lasts several hours.

But husband wants it back on his computer, so he puts on another identical monitor purchased a few days after the first one, and within 5 minutes, it does the same thing, goes kaput. Same thing with green switch and coming up for a few seconds. The first one no longer comes on at all though.

He puts a Samsung SyncMaster 955DF on my computer for all of today, no problems. But I don't like it so he puts back his ViewSonic and I've used it for hours with no problems.

Coincidentally, or not, during the same time frame, my mouse also went kaput. There were no storms. We have a nice Belkin UPS. No power outages or anything unusual and the occurrences were 2 days apart.

So:

1) how to fix the monitors? Don't answer if you don't know please. I get tired of "Hmmm, sounds like you'll have to throw it in the trash... or hmmmm... send it to Proview to fix" (which incidentally, they are both out of warranty and they'll fix them for $100 each.) Don't want unnecessary comments please. Just answers.

2) concerned about my computer being a crasher. Any way of knowing what caused this in the first place? computer? UPS? Don't answer if you're just going to state the obvious ("well, it could be either one or probably a surge.") I know what it could be. I want someone who is really good at stuff like this to answer only if they have an "aha!" moment! Tired of guesses.

thanks!

Answer : Problem: 2 Proview Monitors go kaput w/in 24 hours

The Proview 900P is rubbish. Surprised they lasted this long. The fault is a blown controller card. The invertor and tubes will be OK, but they are only good for spare parts. That they went together is most likely coincidence, unless there is a fault/short in your video card. It is also possible that your power supply is failing and pumping over voltage now and then, particularly given that you killed a rodent as well. No way to know without testing, but if your PC has a voltage page in the bios, you may get an indicator.
