Question : Problem: Advice on SLI video setup
|
|
I'm thinking on going on SLI mode, currently I have a Nvidia 6800 XT 256 MB, that`s becoming hard to find in Mexico, I can buy a couple of SVGA 256MB 7100GS PCI-E DDR2 for less than 140 US or a SVGA 512MB 7600GS PCI-E DDR2 GEFORCE or a couple of SVGA 256MB 7300LE PCI-E DDR2 GEFORCE for about the same price or should I look for the 6800 XT to match the one I have.

Answer : Problem: Advice on SLI video setup

Hello there,
To answer your question, your best bet would not to go SLI becuase of a few reasons. In order for your computer to take advantage of the SLI the game or program your running has to be SLI compatable. With the prices of Video cards droping there is no need to do an SLI setup. Put it this way if you have 2 6800 video cards in SLI it will not out perform a 7800/7900 video card. What I'm trying to get at is, if you add 2 video cards to the system your going to comsume more power, you will not get the benefit of having 2 video cards in the system unless the game/program is compatable, and you will just be taking up another slot in your compter for no reason. As of right now the only benefit that SLI has over Standard mode is that you will be able to hook up 4 monitors to your computer.
Best thing to do in this situation is to buy a video that is 1-2 generations better then what you have. This way you will get more performace and you wont have to pay as much out of your pocket.
Hope this helps
