Question : Problem: Linksys wrt54gs  -  wired fast, wireless slower

I am experiencing a 25% to 30% performance loss when connecting to the internet via wireless connection as opposed to a hardwired connection.  My dsl service is ~ 3mb/s.  When I measure the
speed using DSL reports with a wired connection to the wrt54gs I get ~ 2.2mb/s.  When I go wireless I get ~1.5mb/s.

I have tested using two notebook pc's, both using 802.11g built in cards. PC's are about two feet away from the router. The Linksys router is setup for G only.  Security on the router is 128bit WEP. I know that there is some overhead with the encryption, but at such a slow data rate, I wouldn't expect to see a difference.  Both PC's run XP.

Any ideas how to get the wireless connection speed cranked up?
