Question : Problem: Celeron 533MHz FSB to run on a 400MHz FSB mobo?
|
|
Hi there,
We seem to have a bunch of Socket478 motherboards that only support 400 MHz FSB. We also have a bunch of Celeron processors at 533MHz FSB.
They fit physically, but when we tried with one it didn't even post. So is there any way to make it run, or do we just have to buy another bunch of processors and mobos and have a hellofa lot of computers at hand?
All this gear is 'new in box', though obviously been so for a while. I just realized we should try another two, in case the processor or the mobo was bad. But please, share with us if this is doable or not - we mostly use AMD so all this Celeron businness seems too complicated.. Why shouldn't they work if the socket matches.. :I

You have a FSB mismatch, and since the Celeron-D is based on the Prescott core, your motherboard BIOS needs to recognize that. Check on the motherboard manufacturer's website if there is a BIOS update to enable this; but given that the motherboard can't run at 533 FSB, it may be a losing proposition.
