Question : Problem: Monitor Wont Turn On.
|
|
I Have a HP Pavillion A705w. One day i tried turning the computer on and the monitor did not work. Everything else works fine on the computer. On one occasion (very rarely though the monitor will turn on for about 15-30 secs) the monitor does initialize and everything is running normal with the computer. I have replaced power supply, Tried a PCI video slot, and replaced the ram. The computer has an onboard video card but that does not work either. I am not sure as to why the monitor does not come on. This monitor works with all my other computers. When i hook the monitor up to the HP computer the Light on the Monitor Stays Orange.
**Notes** Yes the video card works on other computers. Tried Different Hard Drives Replaces The Ram Replaced Power Supply Left Bios Battery out about 2 hrs then reinserted it to try and reset it.
Is there anything else i can try ? Can Someone Help Me With This?

New motherboard is best. Capacitors can be replaced by someone with excellent soldering skills, which I don't posess. Here's a competent repair site, but new mobo may cost less: http://www.badcaps.net/pages.php?vid=12
Specs for HP motherboard (made by MSI): http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00063244&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=435558&lang=en#N852
Here are 2 mobos that will fit your case and support your CPU and memory: http://www.directron.com/478mb.html
I've used several of the Biostar P4M80 boards. Price is creeping up though. They were about $45. You will need to do a repair install of XP to accomodate chipset change.
For a direct replacement, Google MS-6577 (motherboard model). May find some on eBay.
Incidentally --> capacitor is not blown per se. Very likely does not have any external signs of damage. If one is bulging or leaking, then you know for certain.
