Question : Problem: Inexpensive Cisco Router for broadband w/features such as port scanning alert, etc.

I need to replace my current LinkSYS Broadband router with something more sophisticated yet inexpensive to learn on. Last summer I went to a W2K3 Server/Cisco Bootcamp and we worked with a Cisco 2600 in our labs. I would like to work on the same equipment but I know they are a little more than my budget. I would like the equipment to be able to do things like detect port scans and block IP addresses that do.

Can anybody recommend Cisco equipment that will be affordable yet provide many of the security features in the more enterprise level equipment?

Answer : Problem: Inexpensive Cisco Router for broadband w/features such as port scanning alert, etc.

Yes that is correct, its up to the software that is installed and the software thats installed is limited by the memory and flash, but you can upgrade both by buying more on ebay. 831's only limitation is memory/flash

Hope this helps
