Question : Problem: Can I remove a thick black line running down a laptop screen?

Here is a picture of what is going on.  I can't figure out exactly why this has happened, but there is thick black line running down the middle of this Toshiba laptop screen.  Any idea what is going on?

Is this the LCD screen itself (which is going to cost me a lot of money to replace) or something simple like a bad inverter?

Please see the attached picture.  Any advice?

Answer : Problem: Can I remove a thick black line running down a laptop screen?

Inverter = No. The inverter is for backlighting only.

LCD screen = possibly. A fault may have developed in the edge connectors around the screen proper.

LCD screen cable = not impossible. You could try re-seating (or replacing) the cable between screen and motherboard. Cheaper than a new LCD.

Video circuitry = possibly. Try an external screen. If it shows to be OK, video circuits are OK.
