Question : Problem: Windows XP MCE: Manually Installed SoundMAX Audio Drivers, Shows Up in Device Manager, But No Sound
|
|
Hi,
I just did a clean installation of Windows XP MCE on an ASUS P4S800D-X motherboard. Everything has gone smoothly, however I am getting no audio.
I downloaded the latest SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio drivers from the ASUS website, however the install program that came bundled with the drivers did not work. I manually installed the drivers using the Device Manager with seemingly no problems. No other devices are missing or having issues in the device manager.
I have tried plugging speakers and headphones into the audio out jack, and all jacks. I have made sure the volume is turned all the way up and I had audio playing.
I have checked up and down the Sound and Audio Devices control panel making sure the SoundMAX was the default device and that the settings were for stereo speakers.
Combing the internet turned up little, however I found a vague reference to another person having the same issue due to front panel audio jumpers. The case the motherboard is in has no front panel audio.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, hopefully I'm just overlooking something really simple.

did you install all the drivers for that board? chipset, video... then check in device manager if the sound is installed with NO errors since you selected soundmax in the audio tab, the right one is selected there. you did connect the speakers to the correct output jack? if so, i fear you have a bad sound section; you can verify this by running from a live knoppix cd (should hear the starup sound at least) : ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/KNOPPIX_V5.1.0CD-2006-12-30-EN.iso
