Question : Problem: XP Drive Won't Boot Up After Working For Months

My computer has been working fine for months. 80GB WD with a fresh install of XP (it was a brand new drive). No problems at all until Saturday.

Now the computer will no longer boot off the drive. It just goes dead when it trys to access the drive.

So, I installed a second HD (30GB Maxor I had lying around the house) and did another clean install of XP. I then set up the 80GB as a slave and WAS able to read all the data off of it.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

I'd like to get the 80GB to work (assuming it hasn't been infected by a virus) so I don't have to re-load and re-register XP. I have a fear of Microsoft forcing me to buy a new copy.

Thanks in advance.
