Question : Problem: Blurry text on native resolution
Hey all,
I couldn't find a similar problem, but if there is one in the databases here I do apologise.
Strange predicament really. We have one of our windows XP SP2 work stations a HP D230 currently setup on a 17 inch HP screen the 1740 incidentally. It has a very blurry screen, it's not just text but rather the whole display. I changed the frequency to 60Mhz, 70Mhz and 75Mhz. None of these change the "blurriness".
So my next train of thought I installed the monitor drivers on, again no success. I removed the monitor drivers just to be sure from device manager and rebooted, upon returning into windows the display was already blurry on the login screen. I installed the monitor driver back on and still no luck.
I got a neighbouring working PC's monitor cable to test, and even on the other monitor it was blurry. I tested the Blurry screen on the other PC and it was crystal sharp ... drivers for video card sprang to mind.
I downloaded the only copy of the HP drivers for that system directly from HP. I removed the display driver from system devices. Upon returning to windows the display was crystal clear, but since i'd removed the display drivers it was on 800 x 600 resolution. I installed the appropriate driver from the fresh download, still looked fine and sharp, albeit a little large on 800 x 600. As soon as I set a resolution above 800 x 600 I get blurry display again.
Frequency does not fix this problem, i've even changed the vga cable twice to elimate that causing noise. Also the desk is clear of any electrical appliances!
Apart from throwing a PCI video card onto the system, i'm not sure what else I can tweak to get this to a crystal clear display again. I "believe" it's fixable since the display is good on 800 x 600, it just goes blurry on anything above that, regardless of monitor attached.
I have got a PCI graphics card ordered, which most likely will cure the problem, just thought I'd pose this question out there as it's not something i've come across before in the hardward support field.
Thanks for your time.
Answer : Problem: Blurry text on native resolution
To keep you all updated, the new PCI graphics has worked fine. I'd say 90% certain it's a motherboard fault. Won't spend anytime looking at where though, since it's resolved!
Appreciate the replies and help on this :)
