Question : Problem: iphone

Im trying to get email on my iphone. I checked my exchange 2003 server and IMAP is enabled and the IMAP server is started. I went through the setup on my iphone and cant get emails. So as a test, I used my email client on my Linux machine. ( I am theorizing that nothing weird will be interfering with my Linux machine because for instance, on my Windows machines Symantec Endpoint protection seem to be interfering with Outlook Express). Anyhow, setting up the IMAP client on my Linux machine went fine but it wont authenticate. It keeps saying, login failure: unknown user name or bad password
The thing is, I know for sure Im using the correct name and password. Once I was having a similar problem with webmail and it turned out that the server name was wrong so even though I was putting in the correct information, the server refused because the login name wasnt on the server. Ive tried several different entries for the server name. ( internal ipaddress, external ip, server name, ) and so on. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this?
