Question : Problem: Help!  Quicktime Player has blacked out controls

When I attempt to play an Quicktime movie (which opens a new browser window), no controls are seen at all... only a solid black bar.  The controls must still be there just invisible because I can randomly click in the black area and jump to different parts of the movie.  This happens for me in FF3, IE7 and Opera 9.52

I need to find a solution because I play many tutorials from www.lynda.com.  Here is a link to a page of professionally created movies from that site (embedded movies on other sites do not work either, this is just an example):

I am using Windows Vista x64 with 8GB RAM, Two 1TB striped hard drive arrays and an 2.2GHz AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core Processor.  I have Adobe Master Collection (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc) installed on this computer in addition to Adobe Audition.  I can't think of any other software that could interfere not that any of these would either.

Answer : Problem: Help!  Quicktime Player has blacked out controls

I have the same problem. .
It used to happen in all Vista flavours, but with updates to Quicktime/Vista it only happens now in Vista 64-bit.
I get around it by either:

1. View your tutorials in Firefox running in XP compatibility mode. This results in the Aero feature being disabled when Quicktime runs, then you can see the controls as normal. Let me know if you need help doing this.

2. Run your browser in a 32-bit OS in a virtual machine - I use an XP guest in VirtualBox. You could use Linux if you don't have a spare Windows licence.

3. I run the tutorial on my 32-bit laptop and use my 64-bit desktop for everything else. Best for me because I can run the associated program - e.g. Photoshop in a bigger window than if I'm running the tutorial on the same machine.
