Question : Problem: Apple Xserve keeps crashing - CPU hung.
We have a brand new Apple Xserve purchased in May 2008. It is 2x2.8GHz Quad core CPU, 3x73GB SAS HDD with RAID.
It the last 2 weeks it was crashing every alternate days. Each time I run a backup, it would crash.
I have run the Tech Tools Delux hardware diagnostics and all the test pass. The server is mounted in a rack and now I have fans blowing into it as it could be a overheating issue. However, we have a similiar Xserve mounted just below (2Ghz, 1 Sata 7200rpm HDD) but without any problems.
Can anyone share if they have similiar incidence of Xserve crashing with no consistent patterns?
Thanks
Joo
Answer : Problem: Apple Xserve keeps crashing - CPU hung.
Try checking the crash logs in the Console.app which can be found in the utilities folder. Sounds like it might be the backup software. See if there is a crash report for the backup software.
