uPNP is a method by which your router allows applications on client computers to dynamically open ports for outgoing and incoming traffic as required. This saves you the time of having to do it manually.
It is also not recommended, IMO, as rogue programs(such as trojans) that may have be installed on your computer can open ports for internet access.
