Question : Problem: Gateway DS PROFILE 4 X- Monitor Doesn't Work

The system is a Gateway DS PROFILE 4 X and on boot up the system will show about 2 seconds of the gateway screen then it goes black.  The same thing happens when i connect an external monitor to the system.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Josh,

The Profile series doesn't have much in the way of expandability or extra cards to install.  If you've replaced all the replaceable parts (you've done memory & cpu,...maybe borrow the PSU from the 'good unit' and try it?), then your last step is to pull all the drive cables off the motherboard and disconnect the drives from power, andtry one last time to at least get into a bios screen.

If you cant at least get a bios screen at this point (and swapping in another PSU had no impact on the issue), then the motherboard is blown (since everything else has been removed/replaced at this point).  And judging by how early in the boot process you're losing signal, it's probably one of the capacitors for the video chip (I'm assuming the PC isn't powering off, but just losing video output, as you described).
