Question : Problem: PC does not recognize new graphics card
|
|
Hi, got a new PC, Fujitsu Siemens (ESPRIMO), with Windows XP. internal graphics card, so I bought a Matrox Parhelia graphics card (PCI, small slot) to be able to put 2 monitors. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to get that working: * Bios seems to have no setting about this, possibly it doesn't see the card at all * driver installation says that the card is not there, and windows itself did't find anything either
I checked on the card and the motherboard if there is a jumper or whater to change, I can't see anything...
Who can help or point out the "problem"?

You said yours is: Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family. (915G chipset with 900 GMA) The model in that link has a 945G chipset and a 950 GMA. -> It's not the same model that you have.........
You have some older model. Presumably an E5700 as that seems to be the only one from fujitsu using an i915G chipset. http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/professionalpc/ESPRIMO/ESPRIMO_Range.html
And, you told us right here: >> in the bios, in the boot options: "Onboard VGA" is set to AUTO, but disabled (so I cannot change it) << That your BIOS is locked against add-in video cards. (Maybe someone should have explained the significance of this to you. My/our mistake assuming you understood that.)
And as back-up confirmations to the locked BIOS:
From this fujitsu-siemens FAQ: http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/professionalpc/FAQ/ProPCfaq.html >> Q- I am plugging a PCI Express x16 graphics card into my ESPRIMO E5700 / ESPRIMO P5700 but it does not work, why? A- The PCIe x16 slot on these motherboards only supports DVI Extension Adapters not PCIe x16 graphics cards. <<
From the E5700 Specs: http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/professionalpc/ESPRIMO/E/EsprimoE5700.htm#Specs >> Video: On-board (Intel GMA900) - up to 128MB shared memory (no PCI Express x16 graphic card support++) << .
Where may we send the flowers for you hw-support guy's funeral??? .
