Question : Problem: Compaq Presario R3400 DVD/CD-RW replacement drive needed

I own a Compaq notebook that has a damaged optical drive.  I had an employee that broke the sliding mechanism off of the DVD drive.  I contacted HP and attempted to purchase a replacement drive part number 350832-001 (so I am told) but they are not stocking these drives yet.  

Where could I buy a replacement drive that would fit the notebook?  Are there OEM sources that you would recommend?

Skip over the first part of the link and try the Compatabillity link for "HOW TO" match a drive if your thinking about straying from that model. Suppliers are at the bottom.

Pull the drive and get the manufacturer part # off the drive lable. Compaq doesnt make the drive. Type that in a search engine and see what you get. If you give me the laptop model number I can give you the service manual link for pulling the drive.
