Question : Problem: The device is not ready

I have been trying to get my brother's printer to work on my computer.  I have tried two printers on my computer and neither work.  I downloaded the software(drivers) from several reliable sources (ie:hp.com,drivers.com,etc) so it isn't the software.  All I get when trying to print an error is:

Error writing to LPT1: for Document Test Page:  The device is not ready

IT IS READY, It is CONNECTED, ON, ON-LINE(though it insists that the printer is OFF-LINE).

I have WinNT 4.0 and HP DeskJet 610CL.

I believe you may have an incorrect memory address set for the LPT1 channel.
Its default setting is 378.
Anything other than this will need to be specified to the printer driver in its setting for the default LPT port.
