Question : Problem: Clone Windows 2000 Server + SQL server
|
|
Hi, I have a Winodws 2000 Server + SQL server which serves our company. I am afraid it will damage in one day and would like to clone a copy out so that in case it is down, I can simply plug the cloned one and online immediately.
So which tools are good to perform this? I have searched Ghost (so many versions) and TrueImage, so would like to listen expert's comment here.
what should I pay attention when I do so, thanks!

Ghost 10 will work on Server 2000. you don't even have to install the software... just boot off the cd.
i haven't used Backup Exec so i can't say for sure if it would work. it should work... just check the system requirements. i don't think Backup Exec requires you to boot off the cd (so i think you actually have to install it). therefore, you need to make sure it will install on windows 2000.
since ghost doesn't require you to install, you don't have to worry about the OS. i have imaged windows 2000 server with it... it works fine.
and yes, if you are wishing to just use the cloned hdd in the same server, then imaging will get you up pretty fast. it depends on how big your hdd is... the imaging process can take a few hours.
