Question : Problem: Tapeware - Data Recovery (Error 549)
Is there any way to recover data files off a Quantum DLT1 tape after receiving an Error Number: 549 Block Size Too Large when attempting to find the Media Name?
OS: Windows 2003 Server
Software: Tapeware (Yosemite) Ver. 7.0
Device: 3.0.5.0 DLT1
Tape: Quantum DLT1
The tape in question was created on a tape drive that has since gone bad and was replaced with a like unit.
Perhaps the tape has fallen victim to a previous defective drive.
What research Ive seen so far seem to indicate in order to make the tape usable is to format. That kind of defeats any recovery.
Any suggestions as to how archived files may be recovered with the above error is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Answer : Problem: Tapeware - Data Recovery (Error 549)
When a drive is not able to read a tape due to incorrect block size, as you already know, the only option to use that tape would be to erase it so that a new header is written to the tape with the correct block size
