Question : Problem: Connecting VPN Router with a WAP Router
|
|
I have a branch office that uses both wireless and wired connections and we're putting in the RV042 VPN Router by Linksys/Cisco. How do I connect the BEFW11S4 WAP and the RV042 Router? I am not sure where to even start with what connects to which port and who handles the DHCP and static settings, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Matt

The BEFW11S4 isn't just a WAP, it's a wireless router. Here's what I would do. 1. Turn off dhcp on the BEFW 2. Change it's local LAN IP to something other than default .1 3. Plug in the RV042 WAN interface to the broadband modem 4. Plug in the BEFW to the RV042 using a LAN port (uplink port) 5. Do NOT plug anything into the BEFW WAN port
Now the BEFW is just another host on the LAN, bridging the Wireless clients to the RV042 which is the default gateway and gives out the IP addresses via DHCP, and is the VPN tunnel endpoint to the remote site.
